It’s the most wonderful time of the month — when Netflix announces what gifts they’re giving us in the form of streamable content. OK, so maybe you can’t unwrap them, but why waste valuable binge time? With the beginning of August comes a ton of awesome new titles, including part one of Baz Luhrman’s highly anticipated new Netflix original The Get Down, two Fast and Furious movies, and older favorites like No Country for Old Men.
Don’t worry, we’re just getting started. Also coming to the Netflix catalog this month are comedy specials from David Cross and Louis CK, a Funny or Die-produced parody where Johnny Depp plays Donald Trump (seriously), and St. Vincent, which stars Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy. If you’re looking for something a bit less laugh-out-loud funny and more kid appropriate, Netflix has you covered with The Little Prince. There’s essentially no reason for you not to spend some time getting your stream on this month. After all, summer’s coming to a close. You deserve to relax.
Available August 1
The American Side (2016)
An Inconvenient Truth (2006)
APEX: The Story of the Hypercar (2016)
Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure (2011)
Big Daddy (1999)
Widely regarded as the best Adam Sandler movie (By me. I’m the wide regard, and I’m absolutely willing to argue over it), Sandler stars as a man-child who is suddenly tasked with taking care of a kid, and he gets more invested than he planned. Who ever would’ve guessed! Listen, all I’m saying is that Jon Stewart is in this and he was young and he looked great. That’s all I’m saying.

Black Widow (1987)
Critical Condition (1987)
Deadfall (2012)
Destination: Team USA (2016)
Funny or Die Presents: Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal: The Movie (2016)
Johnny Depp plays Donald Trump in this Funny or Die parody movie. That’s an insane sentence! In addition to Depp, other highlights from this absolutely bonkers cast include Ron Howard, Alfred Molina, Henry Winkler, and Jacob Tremblay. Presented as an autobiographical film by Trump himself from 1988, it could not possibly be more relevant than it is right now.

The Family Man (2000)
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
It’s honestly a bit difficult to even attempt to remember a time where the Fast and Furious movies weren’t always just there, a major part of our cultural consciousness, but if you haven’t seen the one that started it all, oh man, are you in for a delightful treat. The third film in the series, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, is also coming to Netflix this month so, you know, start perfecting your Vin Diesel impression in preparation.

Featuring the voices of Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, and Paul Rudd, The Little Prince is an adaptation of the French novella of the same name. Sure, it’s targeted towards kids, but that shouldn’t stop any self-respecting adult from getting super emotional over the story, the stunning visuals, and the extraordinary world this movie weaves together.

St. Vincent (2014)
Still reeling from Ghostbusters and looking to round out your Melissa McCarthy collection? You may have missed out on this one back when it was released in 2014, but never fear! McCarthy stars alongside Bill Murray and Naomi Watts in this understated comedy about a 12-year-old boy who befriends his hard-drinking, lonely, misanthropic neighbor. It’s better than anyone gave it credit for a few years ago, and it’s not to be missed.
