Maria Bamford is a brilliant genius, and her gift is bringing the audience into her wild universe to laugh at the absurdity while still feeling for the show’s main character. Maria is playing herself, yes, or a version of herself, and dealing with her own history of mental illness while still working her add off for laughs is a herculean task. Decider’s Kayla Cobb says, “more than any other show on television, this possibility colors what it’s like to live with mental illness.” It’s a special, inspired brand of comedy that demands to be seen.

Allied : Director Robert Zemeckis (Flight) puts some fresh energy into the World War II spy flick by making his audience care about this marriage that — by virtue of the fact that we’ve seen movies before — we know is a sham. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard are dynamite as the central pair, but Zemeckis populates their world smartly, giving the couple context and stakes and a real life that’s worth preserving beneath all the lies and paranoia. Of special delight is Lizzy Caplan as Pitt’s forthrightly lesbian sister.
