This morning, The View returned from its holiday hiatus and tackled some of the Hot Topics from the past three weeks — and there was quite a lot to discuss. The panel talked about practically everything under the sun, but things got particularly heated while discussing Louis C.K.‘s leaked stand-up set in which he mocked victims of school shootings. As always, co-host Joy Behar was loud and clear about her feelings, and she insisted that C.K. “needs a therapist” if he thinks it’s okay to “go after the victim” of any kind of shooting. Behar went on to say that C.K. was “in a pathetic place,” adding that someone “as brilliant as Louis C.K. should know better.”

The View co-hosts wasted no time before jumping into their discussion. After Sunny Hostin explained that she wasn’t offended by the set but still prefers to “speak with [her] dollar” by not supporting certain people (citing Woody Allen as an example), Behar took the reins for a long monologue. “Here’s the thing that I think with Louis C.K. He needs a therapist badly,” she began. “He’s out there punching down, as we call it in the comedy world. There’s so many targets to punch up to. There’s Trump, there’s everything going on in the world, there’s Brexit if you want to go there. There’s a million things to go after. Why would you pick kids who are suffering because of gun violence?”

“Pick the NRA. Pick the NRA, don’t go after the victim,” continued Behar. “Although maybe he sees himself as the victim so he identifies with the victimhood.” The View co-host went on to say that “it’s pathetic” to see C.K. “pity himself” and refuse to acknowledge his mistakes. “Somebody as brilliant as Louis C.K. is should know better,” said Behar, adding that he should “turn himself in” and openly discuss his situation. “I just think he’s in a pathetic place,” Behar concluded.
