Happy October, everyone! Everyone knows that October marks the start of Halloween season, and so many of you out there are trying to figure out what costumes you are going to buy or build for this year. We, like you, are tired of the same old costumes that everyone always uses: the vampire, the ghost, the Spice Girls and the black cat—the black cat especially, like, all you did was put on black jeans and a crop top and put on ears! Seriously? So this weekend we are urging you creatives to look for inspiration from the movies that have come out recently instead of pulling out the same old costumes from yesteryear. And you’re in fantastic luck this weekend because Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu and your cable’s on demand service all have great movies coming out to get your minds churning.
The movie saga with the widest variety—and definitely the most classic—of costumes to pull from is without a doubt the Toy Story saga and the final installment, Toy Story 4, is now available to watch this weekend. Be prepared to say goodbye to Woody, Buzz, Potato Head and the gang as they start their new lives with Bonnie and meet her new favorite toy: a spork named Forky! And if you are the other half of the world that celebrates Halloween in true spooky style, then be sure to check out Pan’s Labyrinth, the dark fantasy film about a Spanish girl who discovers a fantasy world in an abandoned labyrinth and meets mysterious, eerie creatures. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, this film mirrors the darkness of the labyrinth beings with the darkness that existed during the early Franco regime in Spain.
Curious about what else is out there? Check out what other animations, horrors and action films you can buy or rent this week.
Toy Story 4
It is the end of an era: Toy Story 4 is the last Toy Story film in the hallowed Disney saga, and it is available to buy on iTunes today. Toy Story 4 picks up after Andy gives Woody and his gang to Bonnie, their new owner (sob!). The animated film brought back beloved characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie and even reintroduced longtime fans to Bo Peep, but the star of the show is Forky, the DIY toy Bonnie makes at school who suffers a major existential crisis throughout the film. The Toy Story franchise proves that there are some movie sagas that get better with every addition, and although we are already emotional that Toy Story 4 served as the grand finale, we believe it is arguably the best Toy Story film ever.
Stuber
If you thought an Uber driver’s worst nightmare was someone throwing up or giving birth in the backseat, then Stuber is going to be one rude awakening! This comedy action film starring Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani is about an Uber driver (Nanjiani) who picks up a Los Angeles cop (Bautista) and is automatically sucked into an intense, gritty and explosion-filled police case. From Koreatown to Long Beach, Stu drives Vic all around town to help him take down a notorious drug lord all while trying not to die —and maybe get his first 5-star rating in the process. Stuber is a hysterical buddy comedy that forces two very different people to interact and learn from one another through the confines of one ride…but isn’t that like Uber pool already?
