Mark-Paul Gosselaar is traveling back to Bayside High School. After decades of never having seen his own hit show, the 90s star is finally going to watch Saved by the Bell, the NBC sitcom he starred in for four seasons, People reports.
Gosselaar, who starred as popular high schooler Zack Morris, is embarking on his nostalgic journey for Zack to the Future, a new podcast he’s creating with Cadence13 that premieres July 29. The podcast will follow the actor as he watches himself in the series for the first time ever and breaks down each episode. Gosselaar will co-host the podcast with Dashiell Driscoll, the creator behind the Funny or Die series Zack Morris Is Trash and a writer on Peacock‘s Saved by the Bell reboot.
“I am so proud and honored to be partnered with Cadence13. For years I have been asked by the dedicated fans of Saved by the Bell to revisit the show,” Gosselaar said in a statement today. “I couldn’t wrap my head around an idea that would keep the audience entertained and celebrate the beloved series we created over 30 years ago, mostly because I can’t remember a thing about making it, and I am thrilled to say I have found the answer.
“As my co-host, Dashiell Driscoll will be my key to unlocking every door at Bayside, a key he assures me Zack Morris would’ve had. I haven’t watched a single episode in its entirety since I walked off the sets in 1993. It’s time to wheel that big television into class. Go Bayside!”
Saved by the Bell ran on NBC from 1989 to 1993. The series focused on a group of teens and their experiences going through high school at Bayside High. Gosselaar starred alongside Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Tiffani Thiessen, Dustin Diamond and Lark Voorhies.
Peacock is giving the sitcom a new life with a Saved by the Bell reboot, which picks up with the old crew as adults; Gosselaar’s character has even worked his way up to governor of California. Peacock hasn’t revealed a premiere date for the reboot yet, but it’s expected to hit streaming later this year.
