There’s no place like Home Alone for the holidays, and the beloved film franchise is about to get even bigger.
Disney+ announced today that Home Sweet Home Alone will premiere exclusively on the streamer on November 12, headlined by Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, and Jojo Rabbit breakout Archie Yates. Aisling Bea, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, Pete Holmes, Devin Ratray, Ally Maki, and Chris Parnell also star.
Yates plays Max Mercer, “a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers… and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out.”
The comedy is written by Saturday Night Live‘s Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell and based on John Hughes’ original Home Alone screenplay. Borat co-writer Dan Mazer is the director, with Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson serving as producers and Jeremiah Samuels serving as executive producer.
Home Sweet Home Alone is the first in a series of revivals Disney has planned post-Fox merger. Reboots of popular Fox properties like Cheaper By the Dozen, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Night at the Museum are also currently in the works at Disney+.
But will Home Sweet Home Alone still take place in the larger Home Alone universe? Unclear, but expect to see original Home Alone star Ratray (aka Kevin McCallister’s pal Buzz) pop up at some point. Although fans will have to wait a few more months for the whole story, you can look forward to enjoying even more holiday hijinks with the whole family.
