New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Old Dads, Upload, The Pigeon Tunnel + More
Comedian Bill Burr has branched out in recent years, acting in memorable roles in The Mandalorian and Breaking Bad, but he returns to his comedy roots as the writer, director and star of Old Dads, a comedy about life as a middle-aged dude trying to make it in this world today. Over on Prime Video, Upload returns with two new episodes, and we’ll finally learn whether Nathan (Robbie Amell) will be able to prevent the global takeover of the digital afterlife. And on Apple TV+, Errol Morris peels back the curtain behind outspoken writer and former spy John le Carré in the documentary film The Pigeon Tunnel.
New on Netflix October 20: Old Dads
Bill Burr, Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine star as the titular characters in Netflix’s new original comedy Old Dads. The story, about three middle-aged men who sell their company and have to figure out how to make it now that they’re out of touch and trying to exist in a world where a younger generation rules. Loosely based on Burr’s own life and fatherhood, the comedian also co-wrote and directed the film.
New on Prime Video October 20: Upload (Season 3)
On the newest season of Prime Video’s Upload, the drama-comedy from Parks and Rec co-creator Greg Daniels, there’s trouble brewing in the afterlife. In the Upload universe, people’s consciousnesses can be uploaded to a cloud where they can live out the rest of eternity in a luxurious, heavenly resort… but after two seasons of that, there’s unrest among the living who can’t afford that luxury. Nathan (Robbie Amell) and his afterlife angel Nora (Andy Allo) unite (now that his memories have been downloaded into a real body) to shake things up both in real life and the afterlife in this season’s eight episodes.
New on Apple TV+ October 20: The Pigeon Tunnel
Documentarian Errol Morris’s latest film, The Pigeon Tunnel, is an intimate look at British writer John le Carré (also known as David Cornwell), the man best known for writing some of the best spy thrillers of the last century, including The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Constant Gardener. Le Carré, who died in 2020, spent hours with Morris, resulting in an intimate look at his life and career. The film premieres on Apple TV+ this Friday.
