Luca Guadagnino’s steamy sports rom-dram moves back and forth in time, following the relationships between Tashi (Zendaya), would-be tennis great if an injury hadn’t derailed her career currently coaching her husband Art (Mike Faist); Art, a multi-grand slam winner, Tashi’s husband, and Patrick’s (Josh O’Connor) old best friend; and Patrick, a washed-up former rival of Art’s and Tashi’s ex-boyfriend.

The action of the movie, which at its core is about a love triangle where every side touches, centers on a low-level challenger match between Art, recently injured and trying to get his tennis groove back, and Patrick, who desperately needs the prize money.
