2024 has been a whirlwind of a year for Yellowstone fans as the hit Western series geared up for what was meant to be its series finale, airing this fall. However, new reports claim the show will be continuing with another season with new series leads.
Industry newsletter Puck (via TVLine) reports that stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are rumored to be closing deals to remain on Yellowstone. According to the outlet, the stars were rumored to be in talks of joining the Yellowstone spinoff The Madison, but it looks like they may be helming the main series amid Kevin Costner‘s dramatic exit.
Decider reached out to reps for Reilly, Hauser, and Paramount for comment but did not hear back in time of publication.
Earlier this year, Reilly addressed the rumors that she would be joining one of the show’s several spinoffs with a statement that could also be hinting towards Yellowstone Season 6.
“I just care about finishing [Yellowstone] with as much care and as much passion and as much love as I can muster to put into it… I’m sort of prepping for that now, [and] that’s my tunnel-vision thing that I care about most,” she told RadioTimes in April of this year.
She added, “And what goes on beyond that? There are discussions, you know. Don’t believe everything you read. It’s just nonsense… ”
Could she mean there were discussions about her becoming the new star of Yellowstone?
Reilly stars as John Dutton’s (Costner) daughter, Beth, who is married to his right-hand rancher Rip Wheeler (Hauser).
This news comes as a surprise considering the series was abruptly canceled earlier this year amid Costner and series creator Taylor Sheridan‘s long-running feud. Costner later exited the series altogether, citing the show’s heavy delays. Production on Yellowstone Season 5 seemed to be impacting Costner’s passion project, the three-part Western Horizon, which he directed and produced.
“We very rarely started when we said we would and we didn’t finish when we said we would,” he said. “And I was okay with that. I really was. I was okay with it, but it wasn’t a trend that could continue for me.”
Though there’s no indication when Season 6 will premiere on Paramount, the network has announced a new spin-off series starring Michelle Pfeiffer.
Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 premieres on Paramount Network Nov. 10.
