It looks like these Wicked stars are still “holding space” for each other.
While interviewing Ariana Grande on the Golden Globes red carpet with E!, comedian Heather McMahan dared to bring up the viral interview where Grande and Cynthia Erivo shared an emotional, if confusing, moment when a reporter told them fans are “really holding space” for the lyrics of “Defying Gravity,” – whatever that means.
The actresses appeared shocked and emotional, and Grande responded by making the bizarre move to dramatically hold Erivo’s finger.
McMahan made sure to bring up the viral moment, but Grande did not shy away from the joke. “When was the last time you held Cynthia’s nails?” McMahan asked the actress.
Grande responded without skipping a beat, “Um four seconds ago, five seconds ago.”
Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser also poked fun at the viral moment during her opening monologue.
“You could really do anything,” Glaser told the rom full of celebs. “I mean, except tell the country who to vote for.”
“But it’s okay. You’ll get them next time. If there is one,” she joked, before adding, “I’m scared. Ariana hold my finger.”
Grande, again, responded with impeccable comedic timing and immediately grabbed Erivo’s finger.
Both actresses are nominated for Golden Globes this year. Wicked has also been nominated for Best Musical or Comedy, and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
We’ll be seeing Erivo and Grande back on the silver screen together in Wicked: Part II, which premieres in theaters Nov. 21, 2025.
