‘Platoon’
The casualties of war hit hard in Platoon, Oliver Stone’s 1986 Best Picture-winning film based on his own experience in the Vietnam War. At the center of the film is Charlie Sheen’s Pvt. Chris Taylor, a volunteer slowly reshaped by the cruelties of human nature in war, and stripped of the innocence with which he deployed. This is Sheen’s zenith, with mesmerizing support from the Oscar-nominated Willem Dafoe and Tom Berenger (both received Best Supporting Actor nods).
