editAirship mast. On the small island, that is connected to the main town by bridge, lies the slightly dilapidated airship mast that was designed by the well-known Italian airforce general Umberto Nobile in the 1920s. It was the last mainland port for the airships used to explore the north pole region. It can be easily climbed, but watch out for the rusting ladder. The top platform gives fantastic views over the island and Vadsø.

editVadsø is synonymous with the King Crab. Though the commercial fishing industry has shuttered Vadsø's fish processing plant, a small group of local fisherman still place crab pots (specially designed traps) in the waters around Vadsø. Live King Cran can be purchased, with a bit of determination, from local fisherman at the wharf when they are bringing in the days catch.
