You Could Make a Killing Lyrics
[Verse 1]
There is nothing that competes with habit
And I know it's neither deep nor tragic
It's simply that you have to have it
[Chorus 1]
So you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
[Verse 2]
I wish I was both young and stupid
Then I too could have the fun that you did
'Til it was time to pony up what you bid
[Chorus 1]
So you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
[Verse 3]
I could follow you and search the rubble
Or stay right here and save myself some trouble
Or try to keep myself from seeing double
[Chorus 2]
Or I could make a killing
Or I could make a killing
Oh I could make a killing
Yeah I could make a killing
Yeah I could make a killing
There is nothing that competes with habit
And I know it's neither deep nor tragic
It's simply that you have to have it
[Chorus 1]
So you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
[Verse 2]
I wish I was both young and stupid
Then I too could have the fun that you did
'Til it was time to pony up what you bid
[Chorus 1]
So you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
Oh you can make a killing
[Verse 3]
I could follow you and search the rubble
Or stay right here and save myself some trouble
Or try to keep myself from seeing double
[Chorus 2]
Or I could make a killing
Or I could make a killing
Oh I could make a killing
Yeah I could make a killing
Yeah I could make a killing
About
Genius Annotation
Aimee Mann herself explains this song in the album notes to I’m With Stupid:
People get fixed on a certain thing and they just have to have it at all costs. As a bystander, you’re likely to get trampled underfoot. It’s not even that big a deal; it’s just a habit. It’s the habit that will trample you. I don’t sing really high, so Juliana [Hatfield] was perfect for high harmonies. She’s got that kid thing; I love that. I have this vibrato that I can’t really get rid of and she has absolutely none.
