The River of Dreams Lyrics
In the middle of the, I go walking in the
In the middle of the, I go walking in the
In the middle of the, I go walking in the
In the middle of the, I go walking in the
[Verse 1]
In the middle of the night (Middle of the night)
I go walking in my sleep (I go walking in my sleep)
From the mountains of faith (Mountains of faith)
To the river so deep (River so deep)
I must be looking for something (Looking for something)
Something sacred I lost (Sacred I lost)
But the river is wide (Oh, it's wide)
And it's too hard to cross (Too hard to cross)
[Bridge A]
Even though I know the river is wide
I walk down every evening and stand on the shore
I try to cross to the opposite side
So I can finally find what I've been looking for
[Verse 2]
In the middle of the night (Middle of the night)
I go walking in my sleep (I go walking in my sleep)
Through the valley of fear (Valley of fear)
To a river so deep (River so deep)
I've been searching for something (Searching for something)
Taken out of my soul (Taken out of my soul)
Something I'd never lose (Never lose)
Something somebody stole (Something somebody stole)
I don't know why I go walking at night
But now I'm tired, and I don't want to walk anymore
Hope it doesn't take the rest of my life
Until I find what it is I've been looking for
[Verse 3]
In the middle of the night (Middle of the night)
I go walking in my sleep (I go walking in my sleep)
Through the jungle of doubt (Jungle of doubt)
To the river so deep (River so deep)
I know I'm searching for something (Searching for something)
Something so undefined (So undefined)
And it can only be seen (Only be seen)
By the eyes of the blind
In the middle of the night
[Refrain]
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
Not sure about life after this
God knows I've never been a spiritual man
Baptized by fire I wade
Into the river that is running through the promised land
[Verse 4]
In the middle of the night (Middle of the night)
I go walking in my sleep (I go walking in my sleep)
Through the desert of truth (Desert of truth)
To the river so deep (River so deep)
We all end in the ocean (End in the ocean)
We all start in the streams (Start in the stream)
We're all carried along (Carried along)
By the river of dreams
In the middle of the night
[Refrain]
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the (River so deep)
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the (River so deep)
I go walking in the, in the middle of the (Gloria)
I go walking in the, in the middle of the (I go walking in my sleep)
I go walking in the, in the middle of the (It's not Sherie)
I go walking in the, in the middle of the (River so deep)
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
I go walking in the, in the middle of the
About
“The River of Dreams” is the title-track of Billy Joel’s last pop album from 1993. The song was a hit, peaking at #3 on the United States and UK charts, making it his highest charting of the 1990s (it was his only album released during the 1990s). It also hit the top spot in Australia and on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. “The River of Dreams” was nominated for the 1993 Grammy Record of the Year award, but lost to “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston.
In his performance of the song during the 1994 Grammy Awards telecast, Joel left a long pause in the middle of the song to protest the decision to cut off Frank Sinatra’s acceptance speech after Sinatra received that year’s Grammy Legend Award. During the pause, Joel noted he was wasting “valuable advertising time.”
