Oh, What a World Lyrics
Oh, what a world, I don't wanna leave
There's all kinds of magic; it's hard to believe
Oh, what a world, I don't wanna leave
There's all kinds of magic; it's hard to believe
[Verse 1]
Northern lights in our skies
Plants that grow and open your mind
Things that swim with a neon glow
How we all got here, nobody knows
[Pre-Chorus]
These are real things
These are real things
[Chorus]
Oh, what a world, don't wanna leave
All kinds of magic all around us; it's hard to believe
Thank God it's not too good to be true
Oh, what a world, and then there is you
[Verse 2]
Did I know you once in another life?
Are we here just once or a billion times?
Well, I wish I knew, but it doesn't matter
'Cause you're here right now, and I know what I feel
And these are real things
Yeah, these are real things
[Chorus]
Oh, what a world, don't wanna leave
All kinds of magic all around us; it's hard to believe
Thank God it's not too good to be true
Oh, what a world, and then there is you
Oh, and then there is you
[Pre-Chorus]
These are real things
These are real things
[Chorus 2]
Oh, what a world, all kinds of magic
Tell me it's not too good to be true
Oh, what a world, and then there is you
[Outro]
Oh, what a world, I don't wanna leave
There's all kinds of magic; it's hard to believe
(And then there is you)
Oh, what a world, I don't wanna leave
There's all kinds of magic; it's hard to believe
(And then there is you)
Oh, what a world, I don't wanna leave
There's all kinds of magic; it's hard to believe
(And then there is you)
Oh, what a world, I don't wanna leave
There's all kinds of magic; it's hard to believe
About
“Oh, What A World” was the first song Kacey wrote for the album and incorporates electronic effects reminiscent of Daft Punk. The song is filled with positive sentiments, as Kacey is amazed by the beauty of the world and expresses her gratitude for life.
Kacey told NPR that she loves the fact that “Oh, What a World” combines country with futuristic sounds, and that the song set the tone for the rest of the record:
It was like, ‘Wow, OK, I want to follow this.’ What is a world where steel guitar and banjo, all these intrinsic country elements, can live with some of the more Daft Punk influences in my head?
Q&A
Find answers to frequently asked questions about the song and explore its deeper meaning
I refuse to let the ugliness of the modern world make me forget about the mystery and beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. “Oh, What a World” was the first song we wrote for the album and it set the sonic pathway I decided to chase. Futurism: meet traditionalism. Vocoder: meet pedal steel and banjo.
