The Rhythm Changes Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Our minds, our bodies, our feelings
They change, they alter, they leave us
Somehow, no matter what happens
I'm here
[Verse 2]
The time, the season, the weather
The song, the music, the rhythm
It seems no matter what happens
I'm here
[Chorus]
Daylight seems bright because of night
It's shade we need
So we can see
[Verse 3]
Our love, our beauty, our genius
Our work, our triumph, our glory
Won't worry what happened before me
I'm here
[Verse 4]
Our minds, our bodies, our feelings
They change, they alter, they leave us
Somehow, no matter what happens
I'm here
Our minds, our bodies, our feelings
They change, they alter, they leave us
Somehow, no matter what happens
I'm here
[Verse 2]
The time, the season, the weather
The song, the music, the rhythm
It seems no matter what happens
I'm here
[Chorus]
Daylight seems bright because of night
It's shade we need
So we can see
[Verse 3]
Our love, our beauty, our genius
Our work, our triumph, our glory
Won't worry what happened before me
I'm here
[Verse 4]
Our minds, our bodies, our feelings
They change, they alter, they leave us
Somehow, no matter what happens
I'm here
[Verse 5]
The time, the season, the weather
The song, the music, the rhythm
It seems no matter what happens
I'm here
[Chorus]
Daylight seems bright because of night
It's shade we need
So we can see
[Verse 6]
Our love, our beauty, our genius
Our work, our triumph, our glory
Won't worry what happened before me
I'm here
Our love, our beauty, our genius
Our work, our triumph, our glory
Won't worry what happened before me
I'm here
Our love, our beauty, our genius
Our work, our triumph, our glory
Won't worry what happened before me

I'm here
I'm here

About
Genius Annotation
This is the final track of the first out of three volumes in saxophone virtuoso Kamasi Washington’s debut album The Epic. It is the only track in the first volume where Washington shares writing credit and the only track in the first volume with soloist vocals, both from Patrice Quinn, who collaborates with Washington later in “Henrietta Our Hero”.
The title of the song is a reference to the song’s chord movements, as it uses the “Rhythm Changes” chord progression of I-vi-ii-V (although altered in the bridge).
