“Copy of a Copy of a Copy” was first teased in a promo video and later in a tweet a few days before Louis' livestreamed charity concert. After speculation from some fans that it was “Copy Of A”, by Nine Inch Nails, Tomlinson tweeted revealing that it was a new song, not a cover. The song is rumored to be about him talking to his younger self.

He then performed it for the first time on the show after announcing it in the setlist. This was also the first time it was publicly heard.

He later revealed in a tweet that he was not sure if it will be released as a part of his second studio album, but it would remain in the set for tour.
