Where Did Our Love Go Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Baby, baby
Baby, don't leave me
Ooh, please don't leave me
All by myself

[Verse 2]
I've got this burning, burning, yearning
Feelin' inside me
Ooh, deep inside me
And it hurts so bad

[Verse 3]
You came into my heart (Baby, baby)
So tenderly (Where did our love go?)
With a burning love (Baby, baby)
That stings like a bee (Baby, baby, ooh, baby, baby)

[Verse 4]
Now that I surrender (Baby, baby)
So helplessly (Where did our love go?)
You now wanna leave (Baby, baby)
Ooh, you wanna leave me (Baby, baby, ooh, baby, baby)

[Chorus]
Ooh, baby, baby (Baby, baby)
Where did our love go?
Ooh, don't you want me? (Baby, baby)
Don't you want me no more? (Baby, baby, ooh, baby, baby)
Ooh, baby

[Saxophone Solo]

[Chorus]
Baby, baby
Where did our love go?
And all your promises (Baby, baby)
Of a love forever more (Baby, baby, ooh, baby, baby)

[Verse 5]
I've got this burning, burning, yearning (Baby, baby)
Feelin' inside me (Where did our love go?)
Ooh, deep inside me (Baby, baby)
And it hurts so bad (Baby, baby, ooh, baby, baby)

[Verse 6]
Before you won my heart (Baby, baby)
You were a perfect guy (Where did our love go?)
But now that you got me (Baby, baby)
You wanna leave me behind (Baby, baby)

[Verse 7]
Ooh, baby, baby, baby (Baby, baby)
Baby, don't leave me (Where did our love go?)
Ooh, please don't leave me (Baby, baby)
All by myself, ooh (Baby, baby, ooh, baby, baby)
[Outro]
Baby, baby (Baby, baby)
Where did our love go?

What did The Supremes say about "Where Did Our Love Go"?
Genius Answer

Songwriter/producer Lamont Dozier wrote this about the genesis of this song:

Feeling melancholy in a snow-covered Detroit wintertime, I was nursing some hurt from a breakup with a girl who wanted from me more than a casual fling…a commitment I was not ready to make. Sitting at the piano again, I started thinking about some of the wonderful times we had and started to wonder ‘Where Did Our Love Go" and how could something so strong be so fragile and disappear.

I went into the studio with Brian and we cut a track for the Marvelettes. But the Marvelettes hated the song and refused to sing it. We were stuck with the track that we had to finish on some artist on the Motown roster, or else we would be charged for having an unfinished track. So I looked on the artist roster, and at the bottom of the list was my salvation, a group who had become known as the ‘No Hit Supremes“.

After some unpleasantness with the girls, who also hated the song and didn’t want to sing it, they finally gave in and went into the studio and recorded it. Diana’s pissed off attitude was just what the song needed to take it to Number 1 and this song started The Supremes on a roll of 13 number one hits in a row that no artist to date has ever beaten.
