Sickness Unto You Lyrics
I, I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
[Verse 1]
I felt your heart stop beating
With my own two hands
I felt my life lose meaning
I'll never be whole again
I held you in my arms
As she injected you with death
We made you feel like there was nothing wrong
[Refrain]
It won't stop
Replaying in my head
The opened eyes and mouth
Of my beloved
Who now is dead
I felt your heart stop beating
With my own two hands
I felt my life lose meaning
I'll never be whole again
I watched you start to fall
So I eased you to the ground
You looked both panicked and at peace
[Refrain]
It won't stop
Replaying in my head
The opened eyes and mouth
Of my beloved
Who now is dead
[Chorus]
I, I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
[Post-Chorus]
(My sickness unto you)
My sickness unto you
(A part of me is fucking dead
My lungs have filled up with regret
For every day I was away
I'll never be whole again)
A part of me is fucking dead (Dead)
My lungs have filled up with regret
For every day I was away
I'll never be whole again
A part of me is fucking dead (Dead)
My lungs have filled up with regret
For every day I was away
I'll never be whole again
[Refrain]
It won't stop
Replaying in my head
The opened eyes and mouth
Of my beloved
Who now is dead
[Chorus]
I, I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
I give in
I am through
My sickness unto you
My sickness unto you
My sickness unto you
About
In some hospitals when your relative one is in really bad condition they ask you if you would like to set your relative one free from the pain it may cause or just keep on trying. This song is about accepting that choice. He let his beloved one die and now he’s suffering from that person’s lost.
PROPOSED SUGGESTION: If i’m not mistaken it’s about his dog, who was euthanized, not a person, but I guess it could apply aswell.
Paolo Gregoletto (bassist of Trivium) to Kerran about this song:
“Matt [Heafy, vocals/guitar] has gone through some really big changes in the past year with the birth of his children, but at the same time, his dog was dying and it was a very painful experience of having life coming in as you’re losing something that is so close to you. It’s that crushing sense of loss as these great things are coming into your life. It was a really dark point – especially having to leave our tour to be with his wife while he’s preparing for the birth of his kids and some crazy stuff happening. That was one of the most personal songs on the record, and I feel like Matt’s usually best with that. There’s a lot of empathy in him, and when things like that happen it really affects him on a large scale and that comes through in the lyrics.”

“This is another song that Matt brought in. It just felt like we needed something to let loose and be heavy and fast. That’s the stuff that we excel at. There’s an almost Rush-type vibe in the middle that comes from [drummer] Alex [Bent]’s part, and I can’t praise him enough for his playing on this record. Matt wrote the lyrics, which are definitely more somber-type lyrics about loss, and I came up with the title of the song. I don’t even know where I got it from—it just felt interesting.”
