Home and Away star Tammin Sursok has opened up about the incident that occurred in her life which prompted her to give up drinking alcohol.
The actress, who played Dani Sutherland in the Australian soap, would, like many others, reach for booze while socialising with friends.
But as the star got older, she started to realise her relationship with alcohol was changing.
It was suffering a migraine that saw her view the drink in a different way, as she came to realise it was having a negative impact on her body.
‘At times, it would help with my anxiety and then over time I realised, especially as you get older and hormones change, alcohol just wasn’t working for me anymore’, she explained to the Daily Mail Australia.
‘I think that growing up in Australia you think that maybe you’ll stand out for not drinking, so I didn’t say anything for a while because it wasn’t something I was struggling with.’
She continued: ‘I had half a glass of Champagne after I finished filming the movie Blood, Sweat & Cheer. It was an intense movie physically and emotionally…at the end of it I remember thinking, “Oh my goodness, this film is done, I want to celebrate this wonderful experience”.
‘I had a glass of wine and the next day I got a terrible migraine. I was like, this is something that is affecting me in a negative way when it’s meant to be such a wonderful time.’
The star went on to explain that she experiences ocular migraines, which impact vision and speech as they happen.
Tammin added: ‘I would never have more than two [in one sitting] because for me, after two, I would just feel so horrible. When I was in my early 30s, you could go out to an event, have two on a Monday, nothing on a Tuesday, one on a Wednesday, and then two on a Friday. That was a constant thing.’
‘I was having very little time where I was actually feeling good.’
The actress, who has two daughters called Phoenix and Lennon, recently posted a video on her Instagram celebrating two years of sobriety.
As well as opening up about drinking being ‘socially acceptable’ and how she would often reach for alcohol ‘on a plane’ or ‘after a spa day’, the star said:

‘The process of giving up alcohol was actually a long one. I’d do “dry January” feel better and then drink on weekends again. I’d have half glasses and sips of alcohol instead of a full glass. And then one day I just was done. I wanted to feel my best. I wanted to be happier in the long term. I wanted to just try being clear headed.
‘I can honestly say, not only do I NOT miss it at all, I actually am more excited to be social and have fun, go to concerts, be with my family.’
‘I’m sharing my journey. You do you! This also might be inspiration and a sign to try something new in 2025 and see how it goes!’
