EVANS EXPECTS TITANIC BATTLE WITH BILLS

JET NOTES

One Jets player looking forward to Sunday’s season opener with a little added Adrenaline is defensive tackle Josh Evans, who’ll not only be making his first start as a Jet but he’ll be playing against his former coach.

Bills’ head coach Gregg Williams was Evans’ defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans.

“I’m looking forward to this,” Evans said. “Gregg is a fiery coach, a no-nonsense guy who’ll have his team fired up. He’s a coach you love to play for.”

Jets’ No. 1 draft pick DE Bryan Thomas is looking to continue the form he displayed in his first NFL preseason once the real season begins. Thomas led the Jets with three sacks and had a blocked punt on special teams.

After each big play he made, however, Thomas showed little emotion, preferring not to show up his competitors.

That comes from his father, Stanley Thomas. Excessive celebrating, too, draws a $100 fine from Herman Edwards.

“My dad told me to just get your sack and get ready for the next play,” Thomas said.

“Herm says all the time, ‘Act like a pro.’ “

Jets CB Ray Mickens was amused by Edwards’ ranting about being locked out of the practice facility early Monday morning.

“He seemed like he was mad, but what he was saying was funny so I didn’t know whether to be serious or to laugh,” Mickens said. “But put it like this. When it happens to the right people, things get done. I expect to see something get done about that now.”

What that might be remains unknown, but it certainly couldn’t have been a good day for the team’s director of security, Steve Yarnell.
