DENISE “Danny” Brown had an edge of anger in her voice.
“I’m fighting for these kids, you have to understand,” she said on the telephone from the California house owned by her father, Lou Brown.
I had only caught the angry tone previously when she talked about O.J. Simpson, who everyone in this world believes was the man who almost beheaded her sister Nicole and slashed her friend Ronald Goldman to death.
But she was angry with me now because she thought I was trying to dig up something on her niece, Sydney Simpson. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The truth is that Sydney Simpson, 19, the daughter of Nicole and O.J., allegedly got into a brawl at a Miami basketball game and assaulted an arresting cop.
“Things are, unfortunately, the way things are,” Lou Brown said, referring to the fact that a brain-dead judge gave custody of Sydney and little brother Justin to O.J.
“We see our grandchildren [under the court order] only twice a year,” said Lou, who had fought for custody.
Sydney has previously called 911 on her father. She has been involved in traffic accidents and shows dangerous signs of being unable to manage her anger.
What do you expect?
Here is a man, this O.J. Simpson, who quite obviously doesn’t have much time for his kids – in fact, zero time. But that can be explained.
As well as having a 3-stroke handicap at golf, which takes a lot of doing, he has another big weight on his head.
“I will pursue, as my primary goal in life, to get the killer or killers who slaughtered Nicole and Mr. Goldman,” Simpson said after being cleared of the murders. He added he was looking for some Colombian hit men.
So between maintaining a 3 handicap and searching for Colombians, what time would you have for your children?
If only a judge had fought for Sydney Simpson, the angry kid would be the sweet simple uncomplicated child I met and knew 10 years ago as she wrestled with a giant dog named Kato.
