The Fashion Week Diet (a.k.a. No Food For You)

I am not thin, not even close. And when I’m around fashion people during fashion week, this fact becomes especially obvious. But there is hope. There are a lot of ways to get thin if you work in the fashion industry — drugs, anorexia, and poverty are three of the most popular diet plans. But my favorite quick-fix drop-ten-pounds-fast technique? Fashion Week. From 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., we’re running around, filing a crazy number of stories and show reports, and schlepping our very expensive very heavy handbags (laptops, spare shoes, invites, notebooks, make-up, cell phones — they all add up to be quite heavy really). There’s no time to eat, nowhere really great to grab an energizing takeaway around Bryant Park, barely time to find water and drink it, and lots of standing around waiting (standing burns way more calories that sitting right?). Every fashion week I lose between seven and ten pounds. Seriously, this is probably one of the best things about the whole extravaganza. Yeah, I’m superficial and shallow, so sue me. What exactly did you expect from a fashion writer?
