HIXON, MCKENZIE HIT HARD

PLAY POST PICK ‘EMTucked into the Giants’ resounding 44-6 rout of the Seahawks are two injuries that bear watching. Receiver Domenik Hixon and right tackle Kareem McKenzie were forced off the field after suffering concussions and their status for Monday night’s game in Cleveland is uncertain.

The return from suspension of Plaxico Burress would lessen the loss of Hixon.

McKenzie’s replacement in the second quarter was Kevin Boothe, seldom-used third-year lineman from Cornell.

Boothe on his first play was beaten badly by Patrick Kerney, who sacked Eli Manning and forced a fumble. At least Boothe was able to pounce on the loose ball for a recovery.

Boothe was called for a holding penalty in the third quarter.

“The toughest thing as a tackle is to come into the game and those first couple of pass plays to get into that game speed,” center Shaun O’Hara said.

Hixon said he felt fine and was removed as a precaution. McKenzie was not available for comment.

“I talked to him but I don’t think he remembered,” O’Hara cracked. “He called me Rich [Seubert].

“I called him ‘Uncle Phil’ because I always say he looks like Phil Banks from ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ and he gave me the finger so I knew he was OK.”

The Giants found motivation in the words during the week of RB Julius Jones, who promised the Seahawks would be able to play physical football.

“It’s all about hitting ’em in the mouth,” Jones said.

The Giants were not impressed.

“We took that to heart,” DT Barry Cofield said.

CB Kevin Dockery had a third-quarter interception of Matt Hasselbeck – the first all season by a Giants defensive back – and added an entertaining, spinning 44-yard return.

DE Mathias Kiwanuka had a fourth-quarter sack of Seneca Wallace.

The Giants are now 5-15 following their bye, 2-3 under Tom Coughlin.

The Seahawks are 1-6 in their last seven games on the East Coast.

The last time the Giants enjoyed such a rout in the regular season was a 62-10 trouncing of the Eagles on Nov. 26, 1972. The last rout this big was a 44-3 victory over the 49ers Jan. 4, 1987 in an NFC divisional pl ayoff game.

The team decided to wait at least another week with K Lawrence Tynes, who has not played this season because of a sprained left knee. John Carney handled the place-kicking duties and hit all three of his FG attempts.
