John Edwards is officially off the hook — and is now planning a comeback, The Post has learned.
Justice Department prosecutors yesterday said they won’t retry the disgraced former senator after a jury acquitted him of one campaign- finance violation and couldn’t reach a verdict on five others.
And TV-industry sources said Edwards is now itching to land a network sit-down interview to clear his name and serve as a launching pad for his next career move.
The philandering pol last month hinted at a comeback on the federal-courthouse steps in Greensboro, NC, shortly after the judge declared a mistrial.
“I don’t think God’s through with me,” Edwards said.
“And whatever happens with this legal stuff going forward, what I’m hopeful about is all those kids I’ve seen . . . I can help them in whatever way I’m still capable of helping them.”
Edwards had faced a potential 30-year jail term and $1.5 million fine.
