Manhattan

A city garbage-truck operator caught driving his own car the wrong way through Harlem yesterday became the latest in a rash of municipal employees arrested within the last week.

George Jenkins, 35, was busted just after midnight after he was seen behind the wheel of his green 1996 Toyota Corolla as it headed in the wrong direction on First Avenue near East 106th Street, police sources said.

He initially refused to take a Breathalyzer test but later changed his mind and blew a .221 — almost three times the legal limit, a source said.

“That’s really, really f–king drunk,” the source said.

Jenkins, who works for the Department of Sanitation in The Bronx, already had a police record, having been picked up on drug, weapon and robbery charges, but he had been clean since 2000, sources said.

He was the ninth city employee charged with committing a crime since the Fourth of July.

Police are looking for the young man pictured in connection with the theft of a cellphone at knifepoint in Harlem.

The suspect, believed to be in his teens, followed a teenager to an apartment building on the corner of West 133rd Street and Broadway at about 3:15 p.m. June 11, pulled out the knife, snatched the cellphone, and escaped on foot, cops said.

He was described as standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 135 pounds.

The victim told officers that he was not injured.

The Bronx

A surveillance camera caught this gunman as he opened fire on a 29-year-old man at a gas station in Laconia, police said.

The suspect can be seen ducking behind a pump at the BP station on East Gun Hill Road and popping out his head before firing away at 4:35 a.m. June 30, cops said.

The victim survived despite a bullet ripping through his left arm and lodging in his chest, police said.

He was listed as being in stable condition last night at a local hospital, according to investigators.

The suspect was seen jumping behind the wheel of a late-model Dodge Challenger and speeding away, cops said.

He was estimated to be in his late 20s or early 30s, and was wearing a red T-shirt with an unusual pattern out front, police said.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately known, detectives said, adding that they were checking whether the men were affiliated with rival gangs or may have argued at a club earlier that night, sources said.

Brooklyn

A man was caught on camera lifting an East New York smoke shop’s security gate and bashing in the door before grabbing cash from a worker, cops said.

The suspect (pictured) allegedly opened the metal barrier and slammed into a glass door until it, too, opened.

Once inside the 1-Stop Tobacco Shop on Jamaica Avenue at 4:55 a.m. June 25, he pulled a pistol and demanded cash from the clerk, the cops added.

The clerk scuffled with the thug and reported suffering minor injuries.

The crook is believed to have made off with $400, investigators said.

The two young women are being sought in connection with the beating and attempted robbery of a 49-year-old woman in Bedford-Stuyvesant, police said.

The duo allegedly jumped the woman outside a bar on Halsey Street near Tompkins Avenue at about 6:30 a.m. June 28.

They punched the victim in the head and kicked her, but she managed to fight them off, prompting the muggers to scamper across Halsey Street and make good their escape, according to investigators.

The victim later refused medical attention, detectives said.
