Cop fatally shoots knife-wielding man in Brooklyn

An NYPD cop fatally shot a knife-wielding man in Brooklyn Tuesday night.

The officer encountered the 63-year-old James Owens, who was armed with a 13-inch knife, in a residence at 967 East 99th Street in Canarsie at around 9:45 p.m., according to law enforcement sources.

A woman who lives at the location called the police and allowed them to enter when they arrived.

The disturbed man then retrieved the kitchen knife from the back of the home and came toward cops with the weapon.

One officer deployed a Taser on Owens, but could not subdue him.

A second officer then fired three shots, all three hit Owens in the upper body.

He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he died. Police recovered the knife at the scene.

The two officers were not injured but were taken to Kings County Hospital for precaution.
