Republicans stressing out over ‘TrumpCare’

Republicans are in a tizzy over how best to repeal ObamaCare, with one lawmaker admitting at a closed-door meeting this week that once it becomes “TrumpCare,” the GOP will own the results.

“We’d better be sure that we’re prepared to live with the market we’ve created,” Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) said at the meeting, according to a recording of the session revealed by the Washington Post.

“That’s going to be called TrumpCare,” he said. “Republicans will own that lock, stock and barrel, and we’ll be judged in the election less than two years away.”

House and Senate members met privately Thursday at a Republican policy retreat in Philadelphia.

They grappled with how to avoid turning the health-insurance market into a costly free-for-all, how to avoid the political repercussions of defunding Planned Parenthood, and whether to maintain ObamaCare’s expanded Medicaid rolls.

“We’re telling those people that we’re not going to pull the rug out from under them,” Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ) said.

“And if we do this too fast, we are, in fact, going to pull the rug out from under them.”
