Who loves pickles? Clearly a lot of people.
When McDonald’s posted a video of its latest menu addition, the McPickle, to Instagram, it had more than 16,000 views. Pickle lovers far and wide were salivating behind their mobile screens at the two-layered burger filled with cheese, ketchup and of course pickles.
“I’m gonna order 1000,” one fan commented.
“Omg it’s a burger designed for me,” said another.
“I want this now,” one said.
“It’s perfect,” another added.
“Would actually eat this,” one chimed in.
“My dreams came true,” said yet another very excited pickle fan.
Some people were quick to take note of the date and realize the new item wouldn’t actually be added to menus — it was an April Fools’ Day joke.
But others who believed the McPickle was the real deal didn’t see the humor in it.
“Omfg if this is April Fools’ joke imma be mad,” one clearly disappointed pickle fan said.
“This shouldn’t be a joke.”
“April fools aaaaaahhhh very funny maccas very.”
“I WISH this wasn’t an #AprilFool”
“Hahaha as much as I know this is April Fools, I actually wish this was real.”
“I wish! I’m sure it’s an april fools day joke.”
Those who believed the McPickle would be soon be hitting the Macca’s menu couldn’t be blamed entirely for falling for it, with the chain publishing a convincing caption with its announcement.
“Pickle lovers, it’s the news you’ve all been waiting for. We’re super stoked to announce the launch of our brand new McPickle Burger,” the post read.
“It’s time to tuck into juicy, flavoursome pickles layered between melted cheese, ketchup sauce and toasted sesame seed buns. It’s sure to be a treat for all your senses.”
Okay, maybe not, but if there’s one lesson to be taken away from this, it’s not to underestimate the power of a pickle.
McDonald’s Australia was contacted for comment on whether they would actually introduce it as part of their menu, and this is all they had to say:
“We know there’s a lot of love out there for our famous pickles, and the McPickle Burger has certainly got people talking about them. We’re glad Australians have enjoyed our April Fools’ joke!”
Sorry pickle fans.
