AOC thanks Bernie Sanders for having Ilhan Omar’s back after Trump attack

Sen. Bernie Sanders went to bat for Rep. Ilhan Omar on Friday night — calling her a “leader with strength and courage” — in a tweet that was later praised by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“[Omar] won’t back down to Trump’s racism and hate, and neither will we,” Sanders said, just hours after the president released a video on Twitter, ripping the Minnesota congresswoman over comments she made last month about 9/11.

“The disgusting and dangerous attacks against her must end,” Sanders seethed.

In response, Ocasio-Cortez said: “Thank you Sen. @BernieSanders for recognizing these attacks clearly for what they are.”

The New York lawmaker also praised Sen. Elizabeth Warren for a tweet she fired off on Friday night, blasting Trump for his video montage — which showed clips of the Twin Towers collapsing alongside footage of Omar speaking about the terror attacks.

“The President is inciting violence against a sitting Congresswoman — and an entire group of Americans based on their religion,” Warren said. “It’s disgusting. It’s shameful. And any elected leader who refuses to condemn it shares responsibility for it.”

Ocasio-Cortez replied, “Thank you for standing up for all of us, Sen. @ewarren.”

Omar’s controversial comments came last month while she was speaking to the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties,” said the Democratic senator.

Conservatives have been condemning her for the “some people did something” statement.

“First Member of Congress to ever describe terrorists who killed thousands of Americans on 9/11 as ‘some people who did something,'” tweeted Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw.

In the tweet accompanying his Omar video, Trump wrote: “WE WILL NEVER FORGET!”
