A New Jersey groom accused of groping a teen waitress at his own wedding in Philadelphia claims the allegations can’t be true — because his marriage is still intact.
Matthew Aimers, 31, appeared at a Bucks County court with his new wife at his side Thursday as he faced charges stemming from the nightmare nuptials, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Aimers’ lawyer said the bride “150 percent supports him” after the Nov. 24 reception at Northampton Valley Country Club ended with the groom in handcuffs.
“If he committed a crime, not even Dr. Phil could keep them together,” attorney Louis Busico told the court. “And the fact that they still are together shows that my client is an innocent man.”
During the wedding reception, Aimers allegedly propositioned an underage waitress and “asked her to go outside and make out,” according to officials.
She rejected his advances, but then the groom allegedly followed her into a restroom, groped her and exposed himself. The teen told police she was left shaken from the incident.
Officers later responded to reports of a brawl at the country club and found the groom “pushing and punching people.” Aimers then tried to provoke a fight with an officer and called him derogatory names, police said.
A judge ruled Thursday to uphold all the charges against Aimers, including harassment, indecent assault, imprisonment of a minor and indecent exposure. He will be arraigned next month in Bucks County court, the Inquirer reported.
