Samantha Cerio has seen it enough.
The video that shows the ending of the Auburn gymnast’s career has been thrown back in her face on social media.
“Those of you posting and tagging me in the video of my injury, I am asking you to please stop,” Cerio tweeted Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
“Going through the pain and seeing my knees bent unnaturally in real life was horrible enough, but to continue to see it from videos/pictures because some people feel entitled to repost it is not okay.”
Cerio, who will appear on the “Today” show on Monday, has since taken her account private. The 22-year-old became national news over the weekend when video of her dislocating both her kneecaps at an NCAA regional tournament went viral.
“My pain is not your entertainment,” she tweeted.
The injury occurred while Cerio was attempting a handspring double front flip with a blind landing during Friday’s events. She landed awkwardly and painfully. Her teammates, using Cerio’s injury as motivation, would go on to advance to the NCAA finals.
“It was pretty tough to watch,” coach Jeff Graba told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “She’s a trouper. The last thing she said was, ‘Go help the girls.’ The girls rallied around her. They’re doing this for her right now.”
Cario soon announced she was retiring from the sport.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the person that gymnastics has made me to become,” she posted on Instagram. “It’s taught me hard work, humility, integrity, and dedication, just to name a few. It’s given me challenges and road blocks that I would have never imagined that has tested who I am as a person.”
