Hold on guys, the AAF isn’t done with you yet.
Despite having suspended all operations earlier this month, the startup Alliance of American Football isn’t going to lets it’s soon-to-be former players sign just anywhere. The league, which made it through just eight weeks of game play after billing itself as a road to the NFL, is preventing its players from going north to the CFL, according to ESPN.
As the AAF considers bankruptcy — it has yet to officially fold — it views its player contracts as assets. With several players having already inked contracts with NFL teams, it’s a puzzling decision.
The AAF is already facing several lawsuits from ex-players, who have alleged everything from breach of contract to its main investor allowing the league to shutter because he wanted the cutting-edge gambling software owned by it.
