Three high school students were killed when their school bus crashed in upstate New York this weekend, also killing the driver, according to authorities.
Police believe the driver had failed to stop at a stop sign in Burns, New York, and smashed into an embankment and tree after racing through the intersection at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to WBKW.
A fourth Dansville High School student was the only surviving passenger and was airlifted to a Rochester-area hospital and is in stable condition, according to the school district.
The driver and three students — known of whom have been identified — were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the reports.
“We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news that three Dansville High School students lost their lives early Saturday morning,” Dansville Central Schools said in a statement while announcing counseling for other pupils.
The incident remains under investigation.
