Man busted in slashing of two workers with boxcutter at Brooklyn restaurant

An unhinged homeless man burst into a Brooklyn restaurant early Wednesday, slashed two workers in the neck with a boxcutter — and was held down by patrons until cops arrived, police said.

Thomas Hernandez, 61, barged into La Cabana Restaurant on Flatbush Avenue near Beverley Road in Flatbush around 3:30 a.m. and began squabbling with the employees, authorities said.

He then whipped out a boxcutter, allegedly slashed two employees who he did not know in the neck and declared he was going back to jail, according to cops.

The employees, a 42-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, were initially listed in critical condition but are now considered stable, police said.

The woman was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County and the man is being treated at Maimonides Medical Center.

Multiple people inside the restaurant held Hernandez down until police got there, cops said.

Despite his alleged comments that he’d be back behind bars, no prior arrests were listed for him, authorities said.
