Tom Brady is getting a different reputation with the Buccaneers

Ten weeks into the season, Bruce Arians is fawning over his new quarterback — but not for the reasons you may think.

The Buccaneers head coach told “The Rich Eisen Show” on Tuesday that Tom Brady’s work developing and mentoring young talent is the attribute that has impressed Arians the most thus far.

“I think the biggest thing is how great a job he does with young players,” he said. “He’s like having another coach out there. I will tell a kid to do something, ‘Hey, pump your arms on this’ — I gotta tell him five times and Tom will say, ‘Hey, can you pump your arms?’ ‘Oh yeah, sure.’”

As WEEI points out, Arians’ answer may come as a bit of a shock to New England fans after Brady earned a reputation of being demanding and difficult to approach over the two decades he spent with the Patriots. There were rumblings that he didn’t develop a rapport with N’Keal Harry or Jakobi Meyers in his final year in New England, when both were rookies. He was also visibly frustrated with the lack of adequate weapons on the team, which was ultimately a driving force in his departure.

“When he speaks, they all listen, all like little puppies, so it’s been great,” Arians continued.

Brady brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to the Buccaneers, whom he joined during free agency in March. At 43 years old, the seasoned signal-caller is the oldest active player in the NFL. He is a 14-time Pro Bowler, three-time first-team All-Pro, three-time NFL MVP and has six Super Bowl rings.

“He’s an unbelievable competitor, love everything about him,” Arians added.

Brady has completed 66 percent of his passes this year for 2,739 yards, 23 touchdowns, seven interceptions and has helped lead the team to a 7-3 record. He threw 24 touchdowns in a lackluster 2019 season. Brady is on a 16-game pace for 37 touchdowns this year.

The Buccaneers (7-3) will face the Rams (6-3) — who are fresh off a big divisional upset against the Seahawks — at 8:15 p.m. ET Monday.
