Gordon Hayward’s wife refutes notion she was unhappy in Boston
After Gordon Hayward agreed to a four-year deal with the Hornets in free agency Saturday, his wife, Robyn, took to Instagram to reflect on her time in Boston, making a point to refute the idea that she wasn’t happy there.
“Contrary to the media in Boston I have really enjoyed my time there and the relationships made,” she wrote on her story. “I’m going to miss the community I lived in from the local police officers for checking in on me everyday, the wonderful friends I made at roche bothers who were always ready to chat when I was lonely, my wonderful neighbors, and of course my friends at the cheese shop.
“I couldn’t have been as happy as I was without all of you. Trust is a hard thing to have in the NBA world but I do trust my small community always had my back. We are grateful to them for keeping us company while Gordon was away. I am excited to see my husband to show his talents again and play for Charlotte we can’t wait to start this adventure!”
Hayward’s $120 million deal with the Hornets officially ends his three-year stint with the Celtics, who he signed with in July 2017. In three seasons in Boston, including the first in which he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in his team debut, Hayward averaged 13.9 points per game. The Knicks showed interest in Hayward before he signed with Charlotte.
Hayward, 30, spent his first seven NBA seasons with the Jazz after being taken No. 9 overall out of Butler in the 2010 draft. He earned his first All-Star nod during the 2016-17 season, his last in Utah.
While Hayward was competing in the 2019-20 NBA playoffs in the Orlando bubble, Robyn gave birth to their fourth child in September.
