F-bomb adds awkward twist to Nickelodeon’s NFL playoff game

So much for Nickelodeon’s kid-friendly NFL programming.

Bears wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson was heard dropping an F-bomb in the closing seconds of the first half between Chicago and the New Orleans Saints. The NFL wild-card round game was being broadcast Sunday on the network for kids as well as on CBS.

Patterson was picked up by the on-field microphone saying, “what the f—k?” after being called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for running out of bounds on his own during a Bears punt with 6 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Referee Alex Kemp initially called the infraction on the wrong player, and Patterson’s comments could have been in response to that also.

All a stunned Nate Burleson, a former NFL receiver turned broadcaster, could say initially in response was, ‘All right.”

Burleson was on the call with Noah Eagle (son of play-by-play man Ian) and teenaged Nickelodeon stars Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and Lex Lumpkin. The broadcast, which included slime-filled animations to celebrate touchdowns, overall appeared to be hit.

The Saints won the game 21-9.
