John Mayer releases new song ‘Last Train Home’
Sob Rock is the new Yacht Rock.
John Mayer’s eighth studio album, “Sob Rock,” is on the way, and he teased what’s to come by releasing a new single, “Last Train Home,” featuring country artist Maren Morris — and fans say the synthy sound is giving them distinct 1980s soft-rock vibes.
“So John Mayer just made Africa by Toto? I am not mad at it,” wrote Barstool Sports writer Kevin Clancy.
“Can’t stop thinking about John Mayer becoming an 80s rock god in 2021,” added Bally Sports journalist Pete Blackburn.
It’s not just the fellas getting the feels for the song and accompanying music video, either. Despite 43-year-old Mayer’s past romantic and racial controversies — dating a teenage Taylor Swift, referring to his penis as “David Duke” in a Playboy interview, or dragging ex Jessica Simpson with sordid details of their sexual relationship — the ladies are still hot for the “Your Body Is a Wonderland” singer.
“John Mayer is daddy. That’s it. That’s the tweet,” said one fan.
“Nobody talks about the constant inner struggle it is to be a huge Taylor Swift fan but also love John Mayer,” added another conflicted follower.
Ignoring the whole “white supremacist” sexuality comment in 2010, another fan offered: “I’m really in my john mayer era rn.”
Mayer’s album “Sob Rock” will drop on July 16.
