SZA ‘speechless’ after her performance at deadly Astroworld show

R&B star SZA said she was “speechless” after the deadly Travis Scott’s Astroworld crowd crush that broke out hours after she had performed at the concert on Friday.

The 31-year-old singer tweeted that she was “in shock” and “praying” for those affected by the tragedy at NRG Park in Houston that left eight concertgoers dead and hundreds more injured.

“Speechless about last night I’m actually in shock n don’t even know what to say .. just praying for everyone in Houston especially the families of those that lost their lives,” she tweeted on Saturday.

Before her performance SZA had tweeted that she was feeling under the weather. After she had performed she posted a photo of herself receiving an IV drip, apologizing to fans for not feeling well enough able to hang out with fans after the show.

“Houston I no feel so good but thank you for having meeee sorry I didn’t kick it w the crowd tnt,” she wrote.

She said she thinks she caught “a bug” but said that all of her COVID-19 tests had come back negative. On Saturday she tweeted that she would be canceling her show that night in Austin after her fever rose to over 100.

Scott said he was “absolutely devastated” by the horrific tragedy on Instagram and pledged to cooperate with authorities as they investigate and assist the families of the victims. He was reportedly inconsolable after the show.

“I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” the statement said. “My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.”

Over 50,000 fans attended the first night of the sold-out festival on Friday night. Allegedly undertrained and understaffed medical personnel were quickly overwhelmed after the crowd lunged towards the stage, crushing bodies against one another and knocking scores of people unconscious.

Twenty-three people were transported to local hospitals, 11 of whom were reportedly in cardiac arrest, cops said.

On Saturday, Houston authorities said that a concert security guard had been stabbed in the neck with a needle and possibly injected with an opioid that could have played a role in causing the mayhem.

Police said that the guard — and several others at the show — were given Narcan to counter overdoses at the show. The investigation is now criminal, cops said.

Saturday night’s show was canceled.
