The Giants added to their depth in the defensive backfield on Saturday, selecting cornerback Tre Hawkins in the sixth round of the NFL Draft, at overall pick No. 209.
Hawkins is the second cornerback the Giants added in this draft.
They traded up in the first round, moving from No. 25 to No. 24, to take Deonte Banks of Maryland.
Hawkins started every game the past two seasons for Old Dominion.
His value was helped when he ran 3.39 in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day in March.
This past season, Hawkins had 57 tackles, eight passes defensed, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two interceptions in 2022.
He also committed only one penalty, an improvement from the six penalties he was called for in 2021.
With one blocked kick last season, Hawkins could bring special teams value to the Giants.
