One quarterback out, one quarterback in.
The Packers needed a backup for Jordan Love, and they found it in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Green Bay selected Sean Clifford, a former Penn State star, with the No. 149-overall pick Saturday afternoon.
Clifford played five seasons at Penn State.
He recorded 2,822 passing yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions along with a 64.4 percent completion rate last year.
Love is entering his first season as a full-time starter after the Packers traded Aaron Rodgers to the Jets last week in a blockbuster.
The Packers sent Rodgers and the the No. 15 and 170 picks in this year’s draft to the Jets in exchange for the No. 13, 42 and 207 picks in this year’s draft as well as a 2024 conditional second-round pick that becomes a first-round pick if Rodgers plays at least 60 percent of the plays this year.
Love has started just one game in his three-year career since the Packers traded up to select him with the No. 26-overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
As such, he remains one of the NFL’s greatest mysteries.

Now, the Packers have a bit of insurance and another option if he underperforms or gets injured.
The Packers also have Danny Etling on the roster, but he has not appeared in an NFL game in his career.
Most likely, Clifford will jump ahead of Etling on the depth chart and serve as the team’s primary backup.
Green Bay has stocked up on new weapons to help out Love, something they became infamous for not doing when Rodgers was their quarterback.
After taking linebacker Lukas Van Ness in the first round, the Packers used four of their next six picks on either tight ends or receivers for a revamped skill position group.
