Gone are the days of leisurely summers spent by the pool — the jet set is back on the move. And with affluent Americans zipping off to European playgrounds like Capri, St-Tropez, Antibes and Mykonos, full-summer Hamptons rentals are in decline.
“The trend I’m seeing is that people are [staying for] shorter durations,” says Scott Bradley of Saunders & Associates. “They’re not going from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but maybe just for the month of July or the month of August.”
“People feel more comfortable traveling, so yeah, all of the interest I have gotten for my property so far has been short term,” agrees Carol Levy, the broker and owner of 9 Mitchell Dunes Lane in Amagansett.
A self-proclaimed “makeover maven,” Levy — with her husband and eight vegan children — personally oversaw a top-to-bottom renovation of the 8,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom and seven-full-bath property, which only recently wrapped.
With 11-foot ceilings, walls of glass and a massive pool hugging the 4,000-square-foot deck, Levy says she wanted to create a private resort. Now, the oceanfront mansion is on the market for the month of June for $450,000.
Looking for July’s hottest rental? It’s got to be 70 Cobb Lane in Water Mill.
Asking a cool $1 million for the month (or a record $2.5 million for the entire summer), this 28,000-square-foot, 11-bedroom, 14-full-bathroom mansion promises the ultimate summer fun with a movie theater, a basketball court, a gym, a bowling alley, a 350-bottle wine cellar, a tricked out game room and a 750-gallon shark tank — just because.
In 2021 it sold, along with the neighboring property at 71 Cobb, for $118.5 million. It’s now on the market with Hedgerow Exclusive Properties (the same brokerage behind its eye-watering sale).
Need some downtime in August? The oceanfront compound at 10 and 12 Fair Lea Road in Southampton is calling.
This 19th-century abode has oodles of architectural interest (dig that lighthouse style) and 11,380 square feet of space, along with 13 bedrooms, 14 full bathrooms, a pool, a great lawn and a shingle-style four-bedroom guest house.
Pick them up for $650,000 for the month via Matt Breitenbach of Compass and make a splash.
