Observations from Jets training camp on Sunday.
Catch the Fever!
Three early nominees for Best Catch of Camp: Kenny Yeboah’s one-handed touchdown, Jason Brownlee climbing the back of a cornerback and wrestling away a 50/50 ball as they hit the ground, and Garrett Wilson jumping to snag an Aaron Rodgers fastball in the back of the end zone and tapping his toes before momentum carried him out of bounds. Yeboah and Brownlee caught the balls from Zach Wilson.
Hold on
The ball popped loose twice almost simultaneous to the whistle on a series with the second-team offense. Zach Wilson held the ball too long and was “sacked,” ending up on his butt in traffic. Michael Carter had the ball punched out by Jamien Sherwood at the end of a 5-yard run. Fumbles or dead balls, it’s never good to see the ball on the ground.
Caught my Eye
Quinnen Williams was in the backfield so quickly on one play that, if tackling was live, he would’ve met Carter just as he took the handoff.
Rodgers Report
Rodgers wasn’t as sharp as he was Saturday, completing 7 of 15 passes in full-field 11-on-11s. He did connect with Allen Lazard on a deep crosser after changing the play with hand signals at the line of scrimmage. Rodgers was 2-for-3 in the red-zone period, with the aforementioned touchdown to Garrett Wilson and one to Tyler Conklin.
Injury Report
OT Duane Brown (shoulder) was put on the physically unable to perform list on Saturday and it doesn’t sound like he will practice much in camp. “He’s still working through the surgeries he had this offseason,” head coach Robert Saleh said. “We’re not worried about his availability for the season. It’s going to be sooner rather than later.”
