‘Shoot me!’ Dramatic video captures Aaron Hernandez’s brother under arrest after he allegedly plotted school shootings
Dramatic video captured the brother of late football star and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez shouting at Connecticut cops to shoot him as they arrested him for allegedly plotting to shoot up two college campuses.
Three officers are seen surrounding Dennis “D.J.” Hernandez — who is wearing a yellow hat, black Nike sweatshirt and black pants — outside his Bristol home on July 19.
“Shoot me! Shoot me!” Hernandez shouts as he ignores commands to “get down on your knees” and “get on the ground,” the footage posted by Fox 61 shows.
One cop then approaches him from behind and fires a stun gun, which knocks the suspect down.
“I need your help,” Hernandez is heard saying. One of the officers replies that that’s what they’re there for.
Bristol police spokesman Lt. Geoffrey Lund said the raid took place at 1:43 p.m., but time stamps on the bodycam video indicate it occurred about 8:35 a.m., according to Connecticut Insider.
Police acting on a trip called Hernandez on the phone earlier and told him to surrender — but he told them they had “better be ready” because he was prepared to fight, Lund said.
Hernandez also claimed he was armed and would shoot any officer who came near him, Lund said, adding that the suspect then got off the phone and went outside.
The arrest — Hernandez’s fourth this year — came after police received reports he was planning attacks at Brown University and the University of Connecticut.
A witness believed to be his ex-girlfriend told authorities that he borrowed her car on July 7 to attend a court date, but instead drove to the UConn and Brown campuses to “map the schools out,” the arrest warrant stated.
“[Hernandez] said that ‘he has a bullet for everyone,’” the witness claimed, adding that she believes he was “extremely sick.”
Hernandez allegedly made several threatening posts on social media on the day of his arrest.
“Will I kill? Absolutely. I’ve warned my enemies so pay upfront,” the last line of one of his posts read.
Hernandez specifically mentioned UConn, where he had played college football.
“UConn program is going to pay unless I have a package deal and I get my estate and every single thing I have worked for,” he reportedly wrote.
Hernandez was charged with second-degree breach of peace and physical threats. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.
He was first arrested this year when he led police on a pursuit and then was nabbed a second time a few days later when he threw a bag with a brick and a hand-written note at ESPN’s Bristol outpost.
He was arrested a third time this month when he missed a court date involving the ESPN incident.
Dennis and Aaron were both star high school football players in Bristol.
Aaron played for the New England Patriots, but his promising career imploded in 2013 when he was arrested — and later convicted — of the murder of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd.
On April 19, 2017 — while facing both a life-without-parole sentence and accusations of involvement in other murders — he took his own life in his prison cell.
In his 2018 book “The Truth About Aaron: My Journey to Understand My Brother,” Dennis wrote that both he and Aaron were physically abused by their dad growing up.
