Sam Asghari confirms divorce from Britney Spears: ‘S – – t happens’
Britney Spears’ estranged husband, Sam Asghari, has confirmed that he and the “Toxic” singer are ending their “journey together” — one day after filing for divorce.
“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together,” Asghari, 29, wrote in a Thursday statement posted to his Instagram Story.
“We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. [S–t] happens. Asking for privacy seems rediculous (sic) so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful,” he concluded.
A rep for Asghari told The Post on Thursday: “There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos. However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be.”
“Sam has always and will always support her,” the rep added.
A source close to Spears told The Post that the Princess of Pop is “doing well” following the split and is “excited about the book [her upcoming memoir ‘The Woman in Me’] and new music.”
The Post has contacted reps for Spears, 41, for comment.
The fitness trainer filed for divorce from the pop star on Wednesday, just hours after news of their split broke, several outlets reported.
Asghari and Spears met on the set of her music video for “Slumber Party” in 2016.
They got engaged in September 2021, two months before her 13-year conservatorship came to an end that November.
The “… Baby One More Time” superstar announced on Instagram in April 2022 that she was pregnant with their first child together, but the couple later revealed Spears had suffered a miscarriage.
They married on June 9, 2022, at their Thousand Oaks home, with star-studded attendees including Madonna, Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Donatella Versace.
The early stages of the divorce are already getting nasty.
Asghari has reportedly accused Spears of cheating on him and claimed she violently attacked him while he was sleeping.
On Wednesday, a source also told Page Six that Asghari is “attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid.”
The “Make Me” singer has reportedly hired famed celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who is also representing “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner, 68, through his messy split from his estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, 49.
This was Asghari’s first marriage and Spears’ third.
She was married to childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander for just 55 hours in January 2004.
Her marriage to her former backup dancer, Kevin Federline, lasted from October 2004 to July 2007.
She and Federline, 45, share two sons: Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16.
As the divorce gets underway, a source told Page Six that Spears is planning to record a new album.
“She has an upcoming writers camp and is getting songs from some big artists,” an insider close to Spears revealed.
Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me,” is due out Oct. 24.
