The Mack is back!
Texas furniture tycoon and gaudy sports bettor Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale placed a hefty $2 million bet on the Astros to win the World Series.
It would appear that he has confidence in a repeat for Houston after finally placing the wager just before the playoffs, although the payout could’ve been much greater if he placed it in July when the Astros were +850 on BetMGM.
He ends up settling for +600 on DraftKings, who swiftly moved the line to +500 with the massive bet skewing their book.
The Astros do control the AL West, up one game over the Texas Rangers and two games on the surprising Seattle Mariners.
Houston will need to hold that lead in order to avoid the wild-card round and a matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays or Baltimore Orioles.
McIngvale uses these bets as promotional tools for his customers at his Texas furniture stores.
Customer purchases up to $12 million, the potential payout of his bet, would be free if they bring in their receipt after the Astros win the World Series.
He laughed all the way to the bank in 2022 when McIngvale won $75 million on the Astros’ World Series win across multiple sportsbooks.
“What can we say? We just wrote the biggest check in sports betting history to Mattress Mack for $30,000,000,” Caesars Digital COO Ken Fuchs said in 2022.
McIngvale has dominated headlines, constantly being featured in the stands during the World Series and being heckled by Phillies supporters.
