Police investigating Josh Giddey for alleged underage relationship

Thunder guard Josh Giddey is reportedly the subject of a police investigation following social media allegations that he had an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.

The Newport Beach (Calif.) police department is investigating the matter “to see if there is any validity to the claims and if any laws were broken,” TMZ reported Tuesday, citing law enforcement sources.

The Newport Beach police department did not immediately return a phone call from The Post seeking confirmation of the report.

The NBA announced last week that it was investigating the matter.

The age of consent in California is 18.

Giddey has continued to play for the Thunder in the meantime.

He did not expound much when asked about the situation.

“I understand the question obviously, but no further comment right now,” Giddey told reporters last week. “I get the question guys, I completely understand you want to know about it, but just for right now, I don’t have anything to say.”

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault was equally evasive and did not offer details when asked about TMZ’s report on Tuesday.

“I’m not gonna comment on anything as it relates to Josh off the court,” he told reporters before a 106-103 loss to the Timberwolves in the NBA In-Season Tournament.

Giddey, the sixth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, came into Tuesday night’s game averaging 12.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season.
