The family of Josh Giddey reportedly believes the Thunder guard was deceived after there have been claims that he had an inappropriate relationship with an underage girl.
A Daily Mail report cited a source that claims Giddey’s family believed he was “stitched up” — Australian slang for getting tricked — in the situation.
“This kind of situation would be very trying for a family that is pretty normal other than having a 21-year old multi-millionaire son playing in the NBA,” a source told the outlet.
“They are the most down-to-earth people you could meet. They’re very humble. Josh is a good kid and knowing the family, I thought there’s something more to this because he’s not like that. The consensus is he’s been royally stitched up.”
Giddey’s agents, Daniel Moldovan and Alex Saratsis of Octagon, did not respond to text messages or voicemails from The Post seeking comment regarding the Daily Mail’s story.
Giddey’s father, Warrick, did not respond to an email from The Post.
The Newport Beach (Calif.) police department announced this week that it is conducting an investigation into the claims of Giddey’s allegedly illicit relationship.
However, citing law enforcement sources, TMZ reported that the alleged teen and her family have refused to cooperate with the probe.
The NBA announced last week that it was investigating the matter.
Giddey did not have much to say when asked about the allegations last Friday.
“I understand the question obviously, but no further comment right now,” Giddey told reporters at the time. “I get the question guys, I completely understand you want to know about it, but just for right now, I don’t have anything to say.”
He has continued to play for the Thunder as the situation has developed.
