Sen. John Barrasso’s wife dead at 70 after two-year brain cancer fight
The wife of Senate GOP Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) died on Wednesday evening of brain cancer, two years after she was diagnosed. She was 70.
“After a courageous battle with cancer, Bobbi is now at peace and at home with the Lord,” Barrasso said in a statement.
“In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Bobbi was a leader, fierce advocate for Wyoming, and friend to everyone she met. We miss her dearly. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for your prayers and continued support as we remember her and grieve together.”
In 2003, Bobbi Barrasso had been diagnosed with breast cancer but made a full recovery after undergoing surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and later became a founding member of the Wyoming Breast Cancer Initiative.
Bobbi, a Wyoming native, moved to Washington, D.C., after college and eventually worked for two of the state’s US senators, Malcolm Wallop and Craig Thomas, the latter of whom died in 2007 and was replaced by Barrasso.
The couple married the following year in Thermopolis on Jan. 1.
Bobbi, who was born in that town, went on to serve as chair of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, where she helped to organize concerts at the summit of Casper Mountain, and as assistant director of the Wyoming Heritage Society and Foundation.
As a senator’s wife, she also maintained friendships with other lawmakers’ spouses, US presidents and world leaders.
Bobbi is survived by her husband, her daughter Hadley and her younger brother Mike.
